myDetour New York

A pocket notebook and a map are ideal companions for the urban stroller who enjoys collecting details about favourite restaurants, shops and galleries, rough sketches, little pieces of memories from worldwide cities.

myDetour New York was a live action experiment with this. It took place in june 2007.

The Parsons students

Students from Steven Guarnaccia's course participated in this project, documenting their very own urban experience on a New York City Notebook. Steven Guarnaccia is a former New York Time illustrator and director of the Illustration Department at Parsons - The New School for Design. He contributed to the Detour exhibition.

The maps

In several central bookshops and design stores of NY, maps have been displayed, similar to those you can find in the New York City Notebook. Everyone was invited to draw or write on these maps, highlighting their favourite discoveries and itineraries, conveying their unique vision of the urban experience.
